Olá!
Enquanto fazia algumas pesquisas, deparei-me com um trecho muito interessante da tragédia de Hamlet, de William Shakespeare, em que o personagem Polônio passava algumas "pérolas de sabedoria", da forma que todo pai deve (ou deveria) passar para seus filhos. E portanto, gostaria de repassar à todos, aqui, em sua forma original.
"The wind sits in the shoulder of your sail,
And you are stayed for. There--my blessing with thee;
And these few precepts in thy memory
See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue,
Nor any unproporcioned thought his act.
Be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar.
The friend thou hast, and their adoption tried,
Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel,
But do not dull thy palm with entertainment
Of each new-hatched, unfledged comrade. Beware
Of entrance to a quarrel, but being in,
Bear't that th'opposèd may beware of thee.

Comento abaixo, algumas das frases que me chamam atenção.
A primeira frase sublinhada diz: "Cuide seu caráter. Não dê língua aos seus pensamentos.
Nem qualquer pensamento desproporcional, sua ação".
A segunda diz: "Seja amigável, sem ser vulgar".
A terceira diz: "Dê a todos seu ouvido. Para poucos, sua voz".
A quarta diz: "Cuide seus hábitos, tais que sua carteira pode comprar,
Mas não se expresse em extravagância. Rico, não vistoso".
E por fim: "E isto, além de tudo--seja verdadeiro consigo mesmo.
E assim deve-se seguir, como a noite segue o dia,
Não seja falso com ninguém".
